There are some things you can look out for, including:

  • The year of examination and semester
  • Any remarks from the department that uploaded the paper

For the CS1010E paper that was uploaded, there were some papers where the MCQs were not released by the department.

Furthermore, the paper for ‘Semester 3’ in AY2019/20 was not released as well.

Once you have selected a paper that was uploaded, you can click on the ‘View attached PDF file‘ link.

The PDF file will be downloaded to your computer and you will be able to view the questions.

Some things to note about NUS exam papers

Here are some things you may want to know about the exam papers that are downloadable from the NUS library portal:

Only finals papers are available

The exam papers that are available on the NUS library portal are only finals papers, and you will not be able to view any papers that were set for the mid-terms, or other exams.

Papers are only available from the past 5 years

The papers that you can view are only available from the past 5 years. This is because other papers may be considered as ‘out of date‘ if the curriculum changes.

No answers are provided

There are no answers that are provided in these past year papers. The NUS Library portal encourages you to consult your department if you wish to know the answers.

However, there are some possible ways to obtain the answers, such as from your seniors or from other websites like the NUS Maths Society.

NUS Maths Society Past Year Papers

This database will allow you to obtain solutions for most of the maths modules that are taught in NUS.

If you are from other courses, the best way would be to get exam tips or the past year papers from your seniors!

Conclusion

Downloading and attempting past year exam papers are helpful in having a gauge on what topics may be tested during your finals.

This is especially important if you are aiming to get first-class honours in NUS.

However, not all departments will release their exam papers. For example, the modules I took for NUS Pharmacy did not have any past year papers, so we weren’t able to practice for them.
