The Ultimate Guide To SafeEntry Check Outs

SafeEntry Check Out scaled 2

You may have been asked to check out of a venue using SafeEntry when you exit that place.

How do you go about doing it, and is checking out compulsory?

Here’s what you need to know.

How to check out using your TraceTogether app

When you want to check out of a venue in your TraceTogether app, you’ll need to find the venue’s name under the ‘SafeEntry check in’ section. After clicking ‘Check out‘, you will be provided with a ‘SafeEntry check out‘ pass which you can show as proof of you checking out.

SafeEntry and TraceTogether are 2 different technologies, and they need to work together to help MOH with contact tracing.

All you’ll need to do is to go to the ‘SafeEntry check in‘ section on the app and click on the ‘Check out‘ button.

After you have successfully checked out, you will be able to see a ‘SafeEntry Check-out‘ pass.

You can present this to a staff member if they require to see this pass!

How to check out using your TraceTogether token

You will need to present your TraceTogether token’s QR code to a staff member who is manning the check out station. Once your QR code has been scanned, it will be registered that you have checked out of that location.

Do you need to check out with TraceTogether token?

It is not compulsory for you to perform a check out with your TraceTogether token. There are some venues which do not provide you with a check-out option as there are no QR code scanners at the exit. Nevertheless, you will be automatically checked out of a location after a certain period of time.

Even if you wanted to check out of a venue using your TraceTogether token, there may not be a way to do so!

Unlike the TraceTogether app where you can tap the ‘Check out’ button, you need to scan the QR code on your token to check out of a venue.

Some venues do not have a scanning station at the exit for you to check out with your token.

However, that is still ok!

It is not compulsory for you to check out from a venue using your TraceTogether token. The system will automatically check you out of the venue if you have stayed at a location for a prolonged period of time.

Do I need to check out if I checked in using SafeEntry Gateway?

There is no need for you to check out of a venue if you have checked in using the SafeEntry Gateway. The Gateway device is only used to track check-ins via SafeEntry, so it is not mandatory to check out of a venue when you exit it.

If you have checked into a venue using SafeEntry Gateway with your TraceTogether app, you may have realised that this check-in does not show up in your check-in history!

Even if you wanted to check out of the venue, you are unable to do so!

This is because the SafeEntry Gateway device does not transmit any information to your app if you used it to check in.

As such, you do not need to perform a check out if you’ve checked in using the SafeEntry Gateway device.

Is it mandatory to do a SafeEntry check out?

It is not mandatory to do a SafeEntry check out when you exit a venue. Checking out is only encouraged by the authorities, but is is not compulsory. MOH is more concerned with you checking into a place as it will help them to identify if you were a possible exposure.

When you perform a SafeEntry check-in, you are indicating that you have entered a venue.

Even if you did not check out of the first venue, you may check into another venue.

For example, you may have done a SafeEntry check-in into McDonald’s.

Afterwards, you may have done a check-in into KFC half an hour later.

MOH will be able to determine the duration that you stayed in McDonald’s based on the check-in that you did at KFC.

It is important to remember that SafeEntry can only determine if you are a possible exposure. SafeEntry cannot tell if you were a close contact with a COVID-19 case.

It is only through the TraceTogether technology that MOH can determine if you are a close contact!

Your SafeEntry record will be cleared after a prolonged period of time

GovTech has also programmed SafeEntry to automatically check you out of a venue if you did not manually check out yourself.

On the TraceTogether app, it will show the places that you did not check out from.

SafeEntry No Check Out

However, this is still ok! You do not need to check out of a venue as it is not compulsory.

What happens if I forget to do a SafeEntry check out?

If you forgot to perform a SafeEntry check out, there is nothing to worry about. SafeEntry check outs are not mandatory. Moreover, you will be automatically checked out of a venue if your records have remained for a prolonged period of time.

SafeEntry check outs are only encouraged but are not mandatory. SafeEntry only helps to determine the location of a possible exposure to a COVID-19 case.

However, it cannot tell if you were in close contact with the case!

Even if you do not check out, there is nothing to fear.

Conclusion

SafeEntry check outs are encouraged, but they are not mandatory.

Even if you wanted to check out, you may not be provided with such an option!

The main aim of SafeEntry is to determine possible exposures and the presence of clusters.

MOH still needs to use TraceTogether data to determine if you were in close contact with the COVID-19 case!
